Social Justice and Rights Awareness Yatra 2019' concludes in Jaipur
Jaipur : With the slogan of 'Awake the society- Save the constitution', 25-days long the 'Social Justice and Rights Awareness Yatra 2019' concluded in Jaipur on December 20, Friday. The Yatra was organized under the banner Dalit Adhikar Network Rajasthan (DAN) with other more than a dozen social organizations working for the rights of Dalits, Tribals and oppressed communities in Rajasthan, with the aim to reach people at villages and Dhanis in Rajasthan and aware them about the Indian constitution, The Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and social welfare schemes of government in order to unite people and make them aware about their rights provided by the Indian constitution.
Tulsidas Raj, of Dalit Adhikar Network said that these days efforts are being made to eliminate the basic spirit of the constitution which is designed to uplift the weaker section of the society in the mainstream for their social, economic and political upliftment. These days, people sitting at the three pillars of democracy are tearing the Constitution apart, by abolishing its provisions and defining it in the wrong sense, the original aims are abolished. Efforts are being made to nullify our fundamental rights and reservations through constitutional amendments. As a result, the society that Babasaheb had dreamed of bringing to the mainstream through the Constitution, is compelled to live a life of exploitation, oppression, discrimination, rape, inequality and bonded labor even after 72 years.
Tulsidas further said that despite the government's good intentions, the people sitting in the administration are failing to arrest the culprits and bring justice to the victims. In such a situation, Dalits are facing double whammy. First, the emerging backward castes have now become stronger and oppressed the Dalits. And second, their leaders and officials in the executive and power have now started to support their castes openly.
" The constitution is the only support for the protection of the underprivileged for all this. But this society is ignorant of its fundamental rights and the power of laws derived from the constitution. So we have organized this Yatra." said Tulsidas.
The Dalit Adhikar Network, along with about a dozen partner organizations, started this journey from Ambedkar Circle in Jodhpur on November 26, 2019. Since then before reaching Jaipur on 20 December, this journey reached more than 80 places in 25 districts of Rajasthan in 25 days and make people aware about law and rights related to Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, Tribals and oppressed.
